Heat Pump Servicing & Maintenance

Professional annual servicing to keep your heat pump running efficiently and reliably

Why Regular Servicing Matters

Like any mechanical system, a heat pump needs regular maintenance to continue operating at its best. An annual service keeps the system running efficiently, helps maintain your manufacturer warranty, and gives you confidence heading into the heating season.

Without proper maintenance, efficiency can decline gradually — leading to higher energy bills and a greater risk of faults developing. A professional service catches small issues before they become expensive problems.

Flow Energy recommends an annual service as a minimum, ideally carried out in late summer or early autumn before the heating season begins.

What Is Included in a Service

A thorough check of your entire system, inside and out

Full System Inspection

Complete visual inspection of all components — outdoor unit, indoor unit, pipework, and controls.

External Unit Clean

The outdoor unit is cleaned to remove debris, dirt, and any build-up that restricts airflow and reduces efficiency. A clean external unit is essential for the heat pump to operate correctly.

Filter Check

System filters are inspected and cleaned or replaced as required. Filters should be checked at least every 12 months — see the note below for more detail.

Refrigerant Pressure Check

Refrigerant pressures are tested to confirm the system is operating within the correct parameters.

Pipework & Connections

All pipework, joints, and valves are checked for leaks, corrosion, or damage.

Electrical Safety Checks

Electrical connections, controls, and safety devices are inspected and tested for safe operation.

Performance Verification

The system is run and monitored to verify it is delivering the correct flow temperatures and operating efficiently.

Controls & Settings Review

Thermostat and controller settings are reviewed to ensure the system is programmed correctly for your home.

What a service does not include

A service is a routine maintenance visit — it does not include diagnosing or repairing pre-existing faults. If a fault or defect is identified during the service, it will be reported to you clearly and a separate quotation will be provided for any remedial work required.

Repair work is charged separately and will always be agreed with you before any work is carried out.

Recommended Maintenance Schedule

Simple guidance to keep your system in good condition

Annual Professional Service

A full service by a qualified engineer at least once per year. Ideally carried out in late summer or early autumn before the heating season begins. This is the single most important thing you can do to protect your system.

Filter Check — Every 12 Months Minimum

System filters (water circuit strainers — not air filters) should be checked at least every 12 months and cleaned if necessary. These are checked as part of the annual service. If you have any concerns between services, contact us.

External Unit — Keep Clear Year Round

Ensure the outdoor unit is kept clear of leaves, debris, and vegetation throughout the year. Do not allow plants to grow around the unit. The external unit is cleaned as part of the annual service.

If You Notice a Problem

If your system shows an error code, produces unusual noises, or is not heating or producing hot water as expected, contact us promptly. Do not wait for the next annual service — faults can worsen if left unaddressed.
